Volunteer experience- YMCA backpack program
In February, 2018, a group of students from my Nutrition 456 class and I traveled to a local school to pack backpacks with food items for children who come from food-insecure or low-income families. Part of this project involved conducting a needs assessment and evaluating the nutritional value of the foods being packed. We helped to create a list of affordable and nutritious foods to be provided to families in central Pennsylvania. |
Undergraduate academic experience
Nutrition 456- Community Nutrition
Much of my experience in community nutrition comes from this class. I learned about government policies, federal programs, and socioeconomics and their impact on food security across different demographics. Through this course I also gained valuable knowledge pertaining to community assessments, helping me to evaluate the nutritional needs of a population.
Below is my "County Needs Assessment" project for Chester County, PA. This involved evaluating food insecurity and its associated risk factors within this region, and creating a plan to help fix that problem.
